Verrado

Engagement

Verrado is a thoughtfully crafted community in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. It’s set amid picturesque foothills, pristine desert landscapes, and the majestic White Tank Mountains in Buckeye, Arizona.

There’s a small-town charm here, where tree-lined streets and cozy neighborhoods make way for passionate people rallied around a shared purpose. There’s a drive to champion quality education, welcome new business ventures, and support the needs of the greater region. And there is an undeniable spirit of giving.

At Cohere, one of our key community engagement services is philanthropic strategy and development. We seek out service opportunities and set up give-back structures so residents can make impactful contributions right in their own neighborhood.

We know when neighbors come together to support a cause, that’s where true teamwork happens, strong bonds are forged, and the satisfaction of doing good for others elevates the entire community.

Cohere’s on-the-ground Community Life team and the Verrado Assembly, residents, and community partners launched The Giving Tree in 2007 to inspire a passion for service and an ongoing commitment to the community. This philanthropic program was designed to support Verrado’s commitment to volunteerism and charitable endeavors. Program volunteers seek to understand the issues, needs, and opportunities that exist in the greater region, and then provide accessible, hands-on outlets to get involved.

The first event associated with The Giving Tree was the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Buckeye, which brought the greater Verrado community together in the fight against cancer.

“There was a Verrado family whose son was diagnosed with cancer, and Verrado’s director of engagement at the time saw it as an opportunity to host a Relay For Life event in the community,” says Rhiannon Miett, Cohere client engagement manager. “The whole community came out to rally around the cause and support this local family. Verrado residents ended up raising more money than any other Relay For Life group that year. It was a home run and it’s how The Giving Tree got its start.”

In subsequent years, The Giving Tree has made a sizable impact by supporting causes near and dear to the hearts of Verrado residents.

There are diverse organizations that make up The Giving Tree, where volunteers dedicate their time and talent to fundraising efforts and community outreach programs throughout the year. Verrado residents can submit a volunteer interest form to match their service interests with opportunities, and non-profit partners can submit requests for assistance, like volunteers, donations, and event promotion.

“The Giving Tree encourages partnership with non-profit partners in and around Verrado. When neighbors come together for a cause in their own backyard, it’s really powerful,” says Rhiannon.

Through the work of The Giving Tree, do-good residents have rolled up their sleeves to serve meals at the Phoenix Rescue Mission, host recurring blood drives, forward the mission of the White Tank Mountain Conservancy, and facilitate community events to raise funds for local schools, homeless outreach, arts programs, rotary clubs, healthcare services, animal rescue groups, first responders, and religious organizations.

The Giving Tree is also an actual living, breathing part of the community with deep roots in the Verrado soil. A majestic Southern Live Oak, The Giving Tree, planted in Verrado’s Grand Lawn, stands tall as a steadfast symbol of the community’s philanthropic nature.

Our team’s work in establishing The Giving Tree speaks to our expertise in making connections and fostering introductions, offering guidance on philanthropic campaign logistics and volunteer recruitment, and keeping the spirit of giving and drive to do good alive and well in a community.

No doubt, giving back is good for the soul and great for building community. Beyond the brick-and-mortar, authentic, collective experiences are the cornerstones of healthy, thriving, sustainable developments. And our Cohere team has the knack and the know-how for orchestrating those experiences. The result is communities that outpace others in desirability, value, and reputation.
